
Haeger Named Honda Award Nominee

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After leading the Gators to their second consecutive national championship on Wednesday night, University of Florida senior Lauren Haeger is one of four nominees for softball's Collegiate Women Sports Award presented by Honda. The other candidates are Lauren Chamberlain of Oklahoma, Cheridan Hawkins of Oregon and Sierra Romero of Michigan. The CWSA announced the list of nominees on Thursday, and voting is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. ET on Monday.
Named USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year last week, Haeger is a two-time All-American (First Team – 2013 and 2015) and the 2015 SEC Pitcher of the Year. The Arizona native becomes the third Gator Softball player to be nominated for the Honda award (Stacey Nelson – 2009; Kelsey Bruder – 2011 winner).

*Holds a 32-2 record after beginning the season with 24 consecutive victories to mark the best start to a campaign in Gator history

*Holds the SEC record for career home runs (71) and the Florida benchmark for career RBI (260)
*Carries a 73-12 career pitching record, becoming the second person in the history of NCAA softball, NCAA baseball or Major League Baseball to hit 60+ home runs and win 60+ games in a career (also: Babe Ruth).
DID YOU KNOW?
Haeger is the third Gator nominated for the Honda Award in 2015. Seniors Kytra Hunter (gymnastics) and Shannon Gilroy (lacrosse) were nominees for their sport. Hunter claimed gymnastics' Honda Award at the beginning of May.
The Honda Sports Award is presented annually by the CWSA to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.
