Five More Gators Chosen On Second Day Of MLB Draft; UF Up To Six Selections

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators had five players selected on the second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's squad has tallied six selections through 10 rounds, with rounds 11-40 scheduled to complete the three-day event on Wednesday. The Gators have now had 58 picks in his eight-year tenure (three in 2008, 10 in 2009, six in 2010, 11 in 2011, nine in 2012, seven in 2013, six in 2014).
After junior shortstop Richie Martin was picked 20th overall by the Oakland A's in the first round on Monday night and junior left fielder Harrison Bader was chosen in the third round at No. 100 by the St. Louis Cardinals early Tuesday afternoon, junior Eric Hanhold was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round at No. 181. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA this season, with 14 appearances, four starts and 23 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.
Junior Danny Young was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round at No. 242. The left-hander is 2-0 with a 2.42 ERA in 18 appearances and one start, with 23 strikeouts in 26 innings. Junior Taylor Lewis went to the Atlanta Braves in the ninth round at No. 270. The right-hander is 6-1 with a 1.24 ERA in 29 appearances for the Gators this spring, with 31 strikeouts in 51 innings. He has recorded a team-high seven saves while limiting opponents to a .215 batting average.
Enjoying his best season with the Orange and Blue, senior Josh Tobias has paced the squad in batting average both overall (.373) and in league contests (.357). He has committed just one error all year on the hot corner in 131 chances, has scored 56 runs, totaled 41 RBI, chipped in with 24 extra-base hits (14 doubles, five homers, five triples) and is 11-for-13 on the basepaths. Tobias was the second-team All-SEC pick at third base.
