
Pair of Gators win national titles Sunday

A pair of Gators raised championship trophies in two different countries Sunday.
At the USL W-League Championship in Laval, Quebec, junior Meggie Dougherty Howard played the entirety of the match as Washington Spirit Reserves defeated the Colorado Pride 2-1. It was the first W-League title for Washington.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tampa Bay United 97 used an early season-half goal to claim the US Youth Soccer Under-17 National Championship with a 1-0 win over Beach FC Academy 97. Incoming freshman Kaylan Marckese played in goal for Tampa Bay United, recording six saves.
Honors for the Gators
| Dougherty Howard was named to the 2015 W-League All-League team. She is one of five receiving All-League honors who will play as a collegiate in 2015. | | Marckese, who allowed just a single goal in the course of the five matches played at the national championship site, received the Golden Glove as the event's top goalkeeper. She also was named to the tournament's Best XI. |
2015 Season
Preseason practice begins for the 2015 Gators August 5. The 2015 Gator team is made up of 32 players, including 15 incoming freshmen.
The Gators play a pair of home exhibition matches (Aug. 11 versus Troy; Aug. 15 versus FGCU) before opening the season Aug. 21 at UCF.
