Thursday, August 13, 2015 | Track and Field
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Florida track and field's Kyra Jefferson returned from the 2015 NACAC Senior Championships with a pair of gold medals and meet records.
After qualifying for the 200m final with a 23.10, the second-fastest overall time of the semifinals, Jefferson broke the NACAC Senior Championships record with a time of 22.50. The Detroit native edged Trinidad & Tobago's Semoy Hackett by one hundredth of a second, taking gold in a race that saw all three medalists break the previous meet record.
Jefferson also helped the United States break the NACAC Senior Championships' 4x100 relay record. The Americans clocked a 42.24, shattering the prior mark of 43.73 posted by Jamaica back in 2007.
Next weekend, nine former Gators will conclude their summer seasons at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, which are scheduled for August 22-30.
