CARY, N.C. - The University of Florida women's tennis team had three members advance to the final round in their respective draws at the Duke Bonk Invitational in Cary, N.C., on Saturday.
Belinda Woolcock, Kourtney Keegan and Brianna Morgan will play for the championship of their draws on Sunday at 9 a.m. The three upperclassmen led the way for the Gators, who went 4-2 on the day in singles. Spencer Liang also won her match in the Royal Draw consolation semifinals against Duke's Beatrice Capra, 6-2,6-2.
Newcomer Anna Danilina lost her first match in the orange and blue falling to Virginia's Skylar Morton in a three-set marathon match, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Peggy Porter also lost in her Black Draw semifinals match. The Gator sophomore fell to Marika Akkerman of UNC, 6-2, 6-3.
In the final rounds of doubles on Saturday, the Gators ran into some tough competition and were held to a 1-2 record on Saturday. Liang and Porter were able to come away with a shut-out victory in their match against Mancera and Rebol of North Carolina State University, 8-0. The duo of Woolcock and Keegan fought hard in their match against Duke's Harris and McCarthy but ultimately fell 8-7(6). Vialle and Aney of UNC were able to take down the Gator pairing of Danilina and Morgan, 8-4 to round out Saturday's doubles action.
