Florida Softball Team Volunteers with Food4Kids Backpack Program

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida softball team spent its Wednesday afternoon with the Food4Kids Backpack Program of North Florida, which is a registered non-profit organization with the State of Florida and is 100 percent volunteer run.
The mission of this organization is simple…
1) Identify and Maximize Resources
2) Identify Chronically Hungry school-age Children
3) Deliver Food Directly to the Child throughout the counties of North Florida
The Gators helped this great cause as they divided food amongst multiple pallets for 22 participating schools.
That food will now be distributed into backpacks that will hold seven meals per student.
CEO and Founder Jennifer Moore was so grateful to have the UF softball team come out and volunteer. It not only showed in her comments, but in the smile she had throughout the afternoon.
“Being able to connect with our community and bring out individuals like Florida softball players is what makes this special,” Moore said. “The help they provided today impacts childhood hunger in a very positive way. Our organization depends on the efforts of volunteers like we got this afternoon.”
Not only was this a positive experience for the Food4Kids Backpack Program, but the Gators got a lot out of this as well.
“It's always good to give back and volunteer, as I enjoy hearing the stories of organizations like this,” UF senior Kirsti Merritt said. “It's always so moving and I'm very happy to be a part of it. Also, it's fun to come out here with our new freshmen and show them what Florida softball is all about.”
