
UF Wins Sixth Straight Pinch A Penny All Florida Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams captured their sixth straight Pinch A Penny All Florida Invite titles Sunday night inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium in Gainesville, Florida. Following three days of championship format competition, the men's team finished with 1,080 points, respectively, while the women tallied 1,056.
The Florida women shined early, taking the top two spots in the opening 1,650 freestyle. Senior Jessica Thielmann won the event, swimming to a time of 16:47.09, while junior Autumn Finke finished runner up (16:47.610). The Gator women finished Sunday's competition taking first place in 6-of-6 events while posting a pair NCAA 'B' cuts in the process.
On the men's side, the Gators took first in three individual events and one relay. Mitch D'Arrigo won the 1,650 freestyle to open Sunday's action (15:31.03), Jack Blyzinskyj won the 200 backstroke (1:45.81), and Caeleb Dressel took home the 100 freestyle with a time of 43.17. Three members of the Orange and Blue registered three NCAA 'B' cut times throughout Day Three competition.
The Gators will be back in action Thursday, Oct. 8, when the women's team travels to Nashville, Tennessee, for a head-to-head dual meet against Vanderbilt. The men's team will be back in the water on Saturday, Oct. 10, squaring off in a men's and women's non-conference dual meet against Minnesota on the road.

“I thought our athletes swam really well as a whole. It was a busy week for all of them as they swam a large number of events. Of course this is a starting point and we'll see where we can improve from this point in the season.”
On the freshmen class:
“I thought our newcomers swam fantastic this weekend. It's always nerve-racking during your first day of competition and they hung in there and only got better throughout the weekend.”
On the upper classmen:
“Performances were fantastic and our captains continued to lead the under classmen. At this point, we just need to go back to work and continue improving.”
