No. 9 Florida Soccer Loses 3-2 at No. 13 Auburn

A late goal gave Auburn a 3-2 win over the University of Florida soccer team Sunday afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Sunday’s match ended a three-match road stretch for the Gators.

AUBURN, Alabama – A late goal gave Auburn a 3-2 win over the University of Florida soccer team Sunday afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Sunday's match ended a three-match road stretch for the Gators.

All the scoring for the match came in the second half.

The Tigers jumped on the Gators early in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead after just four minutes of play. Casie Ramsier took a shot in the box, which was deflected. The ball came back to Ramsier, who knocked it with a right-footed shot from seven yards at 46:46. Then Taylor Troutman saw Kristen Dodson making a run down the sideline. She sent the ball into space, Dodson caught

up, brought it through the box and then tucked the ball in at the near post at 48:22.

Florida got on the board in the 58th minute when freshman Mayra Pelayo was brought down in the box by AU's Samantha Schell, giving the Gators their second penalty kick of the match. Savannah Jordan took the shot, cutting the lead to one.

The tying goal started when Meggie Dougherty Howard intercepted a midfield back pass. She played a ball for Jordan, who split a pair of defenders as she drove through the box. Jordan got her right foot on the ball just before the Tiger's goalkeeper arrived to score from eight yards at 72:28.

A corner kick in the final minute set up Auburn's game-winner. The ball Troutman sent to the far post was headed down at the edge of the six-yard box. Casie Ramsier's right-footed shot scored in the middle top shelf with just 25 seconds remaining.

Worth Noting:

·         Jordan turned in her 14th multi-goal match as a Gator today and third of 2015. Through 11 matches, she leads Florida with 12 goals and 27 points.  

·         Each of the last three matches between these two teams that were played in Auburn were decided by a single goal (UF 2-1 OT/2012; AU 1-0/2010; UF 1-0/2008). All-time, Florida is now 15-6-1 versus the Tigers, but 4-4-1 at Auburn. Twelve matches all-time between these two programs have been decided by a single goal.

·         With Florida at No. 9 and Auburn at No. 13, this was the highest combined rankings for a meeting between the two teams in the 22 all-time meetings. The previous was in 2011 when No. 11 Florida defeated No. 22 Auburn 3-2 OT in Gainesville.

Florida is ranked No. 9 on the September 22 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and Auburn is No. 13.
