Five Gators Remain in NFL Playoffs
Friday, January 22, 2016 | Football
The NFL Playoffs continue this weekend with the AFC and NFC Championship Games. Five Gators remain on active rosters with a chance to make it to Super Bowl 50. Florida has had a former player in the Super Bowl each of the past 13 seasons and will continue again this season with at least one player on both AFC contenders.
New England at Denver (Sunday, 3:05 p.m. -- CBS)
The Broncos pulled out a close victory (23-16) last weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Denver and still have home-field advantage as the Patriots come to town. Wide receiver Andre Caldwell, linebacker Lerentee McCray and offensive lineman Max Garcia each saw action in the Broncos' win last week and look to play a role in this week's contest. On the other side, New England jumped out to a big lead over Kansas City and held on for a 27-20 win in Foxborough. Linebacker Jon Bostic was inactive for the Patriots last week but could be in the mix on Sunday. During the regular season, Denver beat New England 30-24 in overtime in Week 12 in Denver, ending the Patriots unbeaten run, despite Peyton Manning being sidelined due to injury.Arizona at Carolina (Sunday, 6:40 p.m. -- FOX)
In the NFC, the Panthers exploded for 31 first half points over the Seattle Seahawks last week and held on for a 31-24 win to advance. Arizona outlasted the Green Bay Packers 26-20 in a thrilling overtime game to advance. Rookie offensive lineman D.J. Humphries is on the Cardinals' active roster but is unlikely to play. The only former Gator on the Carolina roster is quarterback Cam Newton, who finished his collegiate career at Auburn. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.Road to Gameday: Florida Football
