UF Seniors Cap O'Dome Careers on a High Note

Seven Gators post U.S. Olympic Trial-qualifying times in nine separate long-course events

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In a battle among four of the top teams in College Swimming, the fourth-ranked University of Florida men's swimming and diving team and 11th-ranked women's squad split a head-to-head dual against SEC-rival Auburn on Saturday afternoon inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida. The Gator women upset the 10th-ranked Tigers, 192-108, while the men came up just nine points short in a close fall to the seventh-ranked Auburn men's team, 154.5-145.5.

The Gator women tallied wins in 13-of-16 events while the men's team registered seven throughout the day. In addition to the wins, seven Gators posted U.S. Olympic Trial-qualifying times in nine separate long-course events (complete list below).

Senior Natalie Hinds was responsible for one of those Olympic Trial-qualifying times on the women's end after taking first place in the 50-meter freestyle (26.10). It was only fitting that Hinds, on Senior Day, would go on to win all four of her respective events as she closed out her career in the O'Dome. The Midland, Texas, native posted additional top finishes in the 100-Meter freestyle (52.03), 100-Meter butterfly (1:02.96), and her last as a member of the 400-Meter freestyle relay team (3:54.03).

Seniors Jessica Thielmann and Ashlee Linn also left the O'Dome on a high note following Senior Day. Thielmann gathered wins in the 800-Meter freestyle (8:50.26) and 400-Meter freestyle (4:21.96), while Linn was victorious in the 200-Meter IM (2:20.50) 400-Meter relay quartet alongside Hinds.

On the Men's side, the Gators jumped out to a fast start in the individual events with a strong showing in the 1,500-Meter freestyle from senior Arthur Frayler. The Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, native clocked a season-best time of 15:49.53.

Sophomore Caeleb Dressel and senior Corey Main helped keep the Gators in contention, teaming up for five wins on the day. Main took top finishes in the 100-Meter backstroke (56.54) and 400-Meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.01. Dressel, who was also on the 400-Meter relay quartet, added first-place showings in the 100-Meter (50.49) and 50-Meter freestyle with a season best mark of 22.49.

In the diving well, the Florida women took the spotlight with a 1-2 finish off the 1-meter in addition to the Top-3 spots off the 3-Meter. Seniors Emily Mosher and Kahlia Warner went 1-2 off the 1-meter and traded places on the 3-Meter. Delaney Dye had a strong showing off the 3-Meter, finishing third overall.

Senior Zach Hernandez (361.95) posted a runner-up finish off the men's 3-Meter springboard while redshirt-sophomore Dalton Goss dove to a personal best off the 1-Meter (310.95) to highlight the men's after.

Up Next:
Both the University of Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, on Jan. 30, to wrap up the regular season slate. The Gators are scheduled for a 10 a.m. ET matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers.

Head Coach Gregg Troy on the Day:
"It was great racing today between two great teams," said UF Head Coach Gregg Troy. "There weren't many races today that weren't close. I'm really pleased with the competition and the enthusiasm I saw today throughout both the men's and women's teams.

"Overall we swam really well as a team. When it came down to it, we just made too many little mistakes and you can't make this against an opponent of this caliber. We'll clean those up as we approach SECs and we'll be ready to go. We're in a good spot right now."

Head Diving Coach Dale Schultz on the Day:
"I would have liked to have seen more out of our divers today," said UF head Diving Coach Dale Schultz. "There were points throughout the meet where we didn't execute where I would have liked to and it cost us some points on the men's side. I'm proud of Dalton Goss who dove a career-best off the 1-meter on the men's side, but ultimately we didn't put our best product on the table tonight. We'll continue to clean up those mistakes as we move forward."
