Florida's 40-14 win Saturday over Missouri moved them into SEC East lead.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators climbed three spots in the AP Top 25 poll released Sunday afternoon, moving up to No. 15.
The ranking is the highest for Florida (5-1, 3-1 in SEC) this season.
The Gators won their second consecutive game on Saturday, defeating Missouri 40-14 on homecoming at the Swamp. Junior cornerbacks Teez Tabor and Quincy Wilson returned interceptions for touchdowns in the second quarter to turn a 6-0 lead into a 20-0 advantage at halftime.
"That was a fun day out there in the park,'' Florida coach Jim McElwain said afterward.
Florida is off this week before traveling to Jacksonville to face Georgia on Oct. 29.
Alabama remained atop the AP Top 25 after a 49-10 win at No. 9-ranked Tennessee. The Vols, who have dropped two in a row, fell to No. 18.
Tennessee also fell out of first place in the SEC East as the Gators, who lost in Knoxville 38-28 on Sept. 24, overtook the Vols in the division race.
Florida's rise in the AP Top 25 has been slow and steady this season. The Gators started at No. 25, dropped out for a week, and reached as high as No. 18 the past two weeks.
The Gators are one of eight SEC teams ranked in the latest poll: Alabama, Texas A&M (No 6), Florida, Arkansas (No. 17), Tennessee, Auburn (No. 21), Ole Miss (No. 23) and LSU (No. 25).
The Gators are No. 12 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll administered by USA Today.
