Jarrad Davis has been named a finalist for the 2016 Pop Warner College Football Award.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior linebacker Jarrad Davis has been named a finalist for the 2016 Pop Warner College Football Award. The award, established in 2010, recognizes a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community, which are attributes Pop Warner emphasizes with its young scholar-athletes.
Davis, who was named as one of 19 finalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy last week and a semi-finalist for the Butkus and Chuck Bednarik Awards, has been one of Florida's leaders on and off the field this season.
Overall this season, Davis has played and started in all eight games for the Gators. He currently leads the team with 56 tackles and he's second with six tackles-for-loss. In addition, he has totaled two sacks, four hurries and four pass breakups. As a team, Davis is anchoring a defense that leads the SEC in passing defense (147.9), team passing efficiency defense (90.54) and ranks second in total defense (268.1) and scoring defense (14.1).
Davis is an advertising major at the University of Florida and was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll in 2013. In the community, Davis has spent over 25 hours volunteering at various organizations around Gainesville since he arrived on campus. Those organizations include Shands Hospital, Boys & Girls Club, Williams Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity and the Newberry Library, and he has also spoken to a Little League team, among other activities.
Davis will miss this weekend's game due to an ankle injury.
The Pop Warner College Football Award is presented in December at Walt Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
Pop Warner created the National College Football Award in 2010 to honor a student-athlete who has continued to demonstrate Pop Warner's fundamental values of sportsmanship, academics and community service at the next level. Past winners include former University of Nebraska cornerback and current Jacksonville Jaguar Prince Amukamara; former University of Virginia cornerback Chase Minnifield; former Duke University quarterback Sean Renfree; former Purdue University wide receiver Gary Bush; former Stanford University and current New England Patriots safety Jordan Richards; and former Wake Forest and current Detroit Lions linebacker Brandon Chubb.
