Florida recorded its first win in Baton Rouge since 2009 on Saturday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators cracked the top 15 for the third time this season in the AP Top 25 poll released Sunday afternoon. Now, Florida has climbed back in the top 15 of the college football playoff poll.
Florida (8-2) jumped eight spots to No. 13 in the AP Poll and six spots in the CFP Poll to No. 15 after a hard-fought 16-10 victory at LSU on Saturday that included the greatest goal-line stand in Florida football history.
Oh, and by the way, that stop clinched Florida's second straight SEC Eastern Division championship. With that, Florida will play in the SEC Championship Game for an SEC-record 12th time on Dec. 3. In addition, Jim McElwain became the first coach in league history to reach the title game in his first two seasons as a head coach.
The Gators were last ranked in the top 15 of the CFP Poll when the Gators were No. 11 following its win over Georgia in the inaugural poll of the season.
Prior to a rematch with consensus No. 1 Alabama in Atlanta, the Gators travel to Tallahassee, Fla. this weekend to take on the Florida State Seminoles, who check in at No. 14 in the CFP Poll.
The victory last weekend yielded a lot of praise toward a program that McElwain dubbed as "on the rise" in his postgame press conference. The Gators should see a rise in its ranking in the College Football Playoff Poll, which is released every Tuesday night at 7.
Until then, the Gators will turn their focus to in-state rival FSU as they look to avenge the 27-2 defeat that happened at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium last season.
Overall in the AP Top 25 & CFP Polls, Alabama remains No. 1, followed by No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Wisconsin.
