Rooney Named SEC Male Freshman of the Week

It's his first SEC honor of his collegiate career
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After his performance at the AT&T Winter National Championships last weekend, Maxime Rooney has received the SEC Male Freshman of the Week honor, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
Competing alongside collegiate, age group and Olympic swimmers, Rooney won the national championship in the 200 free at 1:33.85. His time stands as an NCAA B-cut and, according to USA Swimming, ranks first (as of Nov. 28) among all male swimmers age 18 and under in the event in 2016. Rooney is also ranked seventh in the 200 free among all male Division I swimmers.

Rooney also placed sixth in the 200 IM A-final at 1:48.14 and first in the 100 free B-final at 43.71. Both times are NCAA B-cuts. He additionally finished seventh in the 200 back prelims at 1:45.44 but scratched the finals.
