GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 19 University of Florida gymnasts posted their season-best team score Friday in The SunTrust Spectacular, but it was quite enough to claim the meet title. No. 7 Nebraska claimed first with a total of 196.275, while Florida settled for second at 196.025 – the seventh highest score in school history. No. 18 New Hampshire took third at 193.575, and Towson rounded out the competition with a score of 191.725.
Florida senior Chrissy Van Fleet was spectacular Friday, sweeping the meet's event titles and claiming her fourth all-around title of the season. Van Fleet, who was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week after setting her collegiate-best all-around total of 39.60 in her win last Friday at Boise State, posted another collegiate-best all-around total with her winning total of 39.65. That total matches the third-highest all-around total in school history and gave her the 14th all-around title of her collegiate career.
Van Fleet used season-best marks in the beam (9.90) and floor (9.925) to claim those event titles. She shared her third uneven bars crown of the season with Nebraska's Heather Brink at 9.90. Van Fleet and Brink also combined to share the evening's vault title at 9.925 – also a season-best mark for Van Fleet.
Florida also got strong performances Friday from sophomore Krissy Dreger, who turned in a collegiate-best vault score of 9.85 in her first vault competition of the season to tie for third in that event. The Gators had four gymnasts turn in balance beam score of 9.85 or above Friday. In addition to Van Fleet, sophomore Hilary Thompson took second with a mark of 9.875, while junior Teal Chiabotti and freshman Lindsey Miner shared third at 9.85 with Nebraska's Nicole Wilkinson. Thompson also shared second on floor at 9.90 with Nebraska's A.J. Lamb.
Next up, the Gators play host the Gatorade Conference Showcase on Friday, Feb. 25. The quad meet features No. 6 Louisiana State, No. 8 Iowa State and No. 14 North Carolina State. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
