Bridget Sloan finalist for 2016 AAI Award
Wednesday, March 23, 2016 | Gymnastics
University of Florida senior gymnast Bridget Sloan is one of the six finalists for the 2016 AAI Award. The honor is given annually to the top senior student-athlete in NCAA Division I women's gymnastics. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships awards banquet next month in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Sloan is No. 1 in the latest Road to Nationals all-around rankings. Four of her marks in 2016 are among the nation's top 12 and is the only one to post the leading total (39.775) in multiple meets. She's won six all-around titles in 2016.
Sloan currently is second on Florida's career all-around (24) and event (88) wins charts, which includes the 2013 NCAA title. The eight 10.0 marks she turned in as a Gator makes her Florida's career leader. The 21-time All-American (11 NCAA / 10 NACGC regular season honors) won the 2013 Honda Award as the nation's top collegiate gymnast.
Sloan is a SEC Academic Honor Roll member and has also been active in Gator gymnastics community service efforts.
Next up, the Gators look for a top two-team finish at the April 2 NCAA Minneapolis Regional to send the team to the NCAA Championships, set for April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Florida is the three-time defending NCAA champion.
