The University of Florida men's basketball and women's tennis teams received public recognition from the NCAA on Wednesday for posting Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of their sport.Patric Young and Lauren Embree, Spring 2014 Commencement
UF's men's basketball team is being recognized for the third consecutive year, the first time any SEC men's basketball team has had a three-year streak of such recognition since APR was implemented in 2003.
The Gator women's tennis team has earned the honor for the second straight year, marking the second time the team has been recognized in back-to-back years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a measure of each team's academic performance.
This year's APR report is a multi-year rate based on scores from the academic years 2011-12 through 2014-15. These teams experienced great on-court success while exhibiting commitment to the classroom during those years, highlighted by a women's tennis national championship in 2012 and a men's basketball Final Four appearance in 2014.
