Gator gymnastics head coach Jenny Rowland spoke at today's All-Sports Press Conference.
Florida finished fourth in the 2016 NCAA Super Six team final last Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. Oklahoma won the title with a team total of 197.675. Following the Sooners were three Southeastern Conference schools. LSU was second at 197.45, followed by Alabama (197.4375) and Florida (197.35). UCLA (196.825) and Georgia (196.8125) rounded out the NCAA Super Six team results.
The 0.325 margin between first and fourth is the slenderest in the 35-year history of the NCAA Championships. The previous slightest margin between first and fourth of 0.35 came in 2012.
In NCAA Semifinal action, senior Bridget Sloan won her second NCAA all-around title. She also shared the NCAA titles for uneven bars and balance beam. Five Gators earned a total of 14 All-America honors Friday.
The NCAA Super Six team final ended the 2016 women's collegiate season. The Gators lose four seniors (Bridgette Caquatto, Bianca Dancose-Giambattisto, Morgan Frazier, Sloan) and return 10 for the 2017 season. Of those 10, four are All-Americans (Kennedy Baker, Alicia Boren, Claire Boyce, Alex McMurtry).
Florida welcomes five to the team next season. The signee class announced in November is one of, if not, the top class for 2017. Sierra Alexander will also join the team.
The 2017 season begins Jan. 6 at North Carolina State. Home action begins the next Friday versus Kentucky.
