OKLAHOMA CITY – Following a pair of wins over then-No. 5 Louisiana-Lafayette this past weekend, University of Florida left-hander Delanie Gourley was selected as the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week on Tuesday. This is second national award of Gourley's career and Florida's first of the season.
The southpaw last earned this award on March 3, 2015, after yielding a mere three hits over 11 innings in UF's shutouts of No. 2 Oregon and UC Davis.
The junior earned a pair of wins this past weekend against ULL, starting game one of the series and tossing 4.1 innings of relief on Sunday afternoon.
In the series opener, Gourley tallied 13 strikeouts, tying her career high, and gave up one run on two hits in complete-game effort. In relief of freshman Kelly Barnhill on Sunday, Gourley registered eight strikeouts and surrendered two hits over 4.1 scoreless innings, helping the Gators become just the second team this season post a shutout against the Ragin' Cajuns.
Her team-high 143 strikeouts are already a new single-season career high, surpassing her 2014 total of 127. Additionally, Gourley crossed the century mark for innings pitched this past weekend. The Lakeside, Calif. native last achieved that mark in 2014, when she logged 107.2 innings.
Gourley's astounding 0.76 earned run average (89.1 IP) would go down as the third-lowest ERA for a single season in Florida history if the season ended today. Stacey Nelson currently holds UF's top two single-season ERAs, as she recorded a 0.61 ERA (285.1 IP) in 2009 and a 0.75 ERA (352.2 IP) in 2008.
Overall, Gourley is 13-2 this season and owns the third-lowest ERA in the country.
