GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 6 University of Florida women's tennis team swept the No. 25 Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday afternoon to remain a perfect 9-0 in SEC play. After pushing first serve back an hour, senior day festivities commenced for
Brianna Morgan and her family and friends at 1:45.
In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles of tandem of
Brooke Austin and
Kourtney Keegan made quick work of the No. 42-ranked tandem of Paalma and Pierson, 6-1.
Anna Danilina and
Brianna Morgan would clinch the doubles point on court three with a 6-2 win over Deheza and Gonzalez.
Rain halted singles play during the first sets of the match. After a 30-minute delay, play on courts one, two and three resumed in the indoor facility. Sophomore
Austin was quick to finish her match against No. 32-ranked Saska Gavriolska, 6-2, 6-2.
Belinda Woolcock pushed the Gator lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rachel Pierson. For the third time this season, sophomore
Josie Kuhlman clinched the match for the Gators on court five with a 6-1, 6-2 dominating win over Anna Mamalat.
Florida will go on the road for the remainder of the regular season, starting with a contest against Alabama next Friday night at 6 p.m.
Head Coach Roland ThornqvistOn difficulty of changing venues multiple times in today's match… "We talked about it a little bit after the match. I am really thankful to have a team here where I don't have to worry whether the team is going to be ready. It is team that is going to take care of themselves and they are self-motivated. They know how to prepare themselves. So, we could worry about some of the things that are out on the court. We didn't have to worry about whether the Gators were doing what they should in the locker room while we were waiting.
I think you saw that in our play. We were clinical. We played great doubles to start. We handled the stop and start better than Texas A&M, in my opinion. Then, we had to go inside and Brooke set the tone with some down the line winners. The crowd got involved. Then, the rest of them really followed suit, so overall, I am really pleased. Texas A&M is a really good team but I think we made short work of them today. That is all the credit to everyone in there, who was especially motivated today because of Bri's senior day."
