Florida Gymnasts to Compete in NCAA Championships’ Semifinal I

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three-time defending national champion University of Florida gymnastics team is in the opening NCAA Championships' semifinal on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. (ET). Semifinal I contains Florida, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Minnesota and Stanford.

Semifinal II (which begins at 8 p.m. ET) consists of Alabama, California, UCLA, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Utah. The NCAA Championships are set for April 15-16 at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

This is the third season that the seeding determined at the time of regional selections holds throughout the championships. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 will compete in Friday's Semifinal II and teams 2, 3, 6, 10, 14 and 18 compete in Semifinal I. The top two teams at each of the six regionals held Saturday across the nation advance to the NCAA Championships. Florida is the No. 2 seed for the sixth time in the program's history. The Gators advance to the national site after winning the NCAA Minneapolis Regional last Saturday.

The top three teams in each of the April 15 semifinals advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 16 at 9 p.m. (ET), where the national team champion is determined. For the first time in the meet's 35-year history, both semifinals and the Super Six airs live on ESPNU.

Florida won its first NCAA team title at the 2013 NCAA Super Six team final, shared the 2014 title with Oklahoma after each team turned in a Super Six record total of 198.175 and won its third straight crown in 2015.

The NCAA conducted a blind draw to set the start order for each of the semifinal sessions. This is the eighth time in its 34 NCAA Championships' appearances Florida opens competition on floor exercise, with the last coming in 2014.
