Junior pitcher has spent over 30 hours volunteering his time as part of the Goodwill Gators program
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Junior pitcher Dane Dunning was named to the 2016 SEC Baseball Community Service Team, the league announced on Wednesday. It marks the first Community Service honor for the right-hander.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
Dunning has spent over 30 hours this year volunteering his time as part of the Goodwill Gators program. Included among his community service efforts are visits to UF Health Hospital to visit children receiving medical care and regular visits to Westwood Middle School to work with students. He has also made visits to other local schools in the area throughout the year.
The No. 1 Gators (43-9 / 18-8 SEC) wrap up the regular season by traveling Western Division rival LSU (37-16/17-10 SEC) in a three-game series that starts Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The series can be heard through FloridaGators.com and on the Gator IMG Sports Network with Jeff Cardozo and Steve Russell. It will also be carried on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app on tablets and computers.
Live stats for each game will be available on GatorZone.com and fans can also follow updates of each game on @GatorZoneBB, the official Twitter account of the Gator baseball team.
