Not much new from the Florida contingent, but here are some highlights gathered via social media:
- McElwain says nothing has changed with suspended receiver Antonio Callaway, adding that Callaway is not enrolled in Summer A classes. Callaway remains away from the football program along with quarterback Treon Harris.
- On the injury front, McElwain said linebacker Alex Anzalone (shoulder), offensive lineman Martez Ivey (shoulder) and receiver Brandon Powell (foot) have been cleared for contact for the fall. McElwain said Powell will wear special shoes to protect his surgically repaired foot from further injury.
- McElwain was asked about the absence of Steve Spurrier, the former UF and South Carolina coach who always delivered a few one-liners at the SEC meetings. "I'm going to miss Coach Spurrier,'' McElwain said. "He had a way of keeping it light."
- Speaking of good one-liners, former Gators coach Will Muschamp offered up a gem when asked about his Nov. 12 return to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on the visitors' sideline as South Carolina's coach. "I've been there before,'' he said. "Some Gator fans wanted me over there when I was there."
- McElwain emphasized the Gators must come to fall camp ready to defend their SEC East title and maintain a sense of urgency to improve in Year 2. "If you're comfortable, usually that's when you get your tail beat,'' he said.
- White discussed the transformation of redshirt freshman Keith Stone, who has developed physically into a player the Gators have high hopes for during the 2016-17 season. "You don't worry about where he is on Thursday or Friday night,'' White said. "He's in the basketball facility working."
