DURHAM, N.C. – Logan Shore has been selected as one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate baseball player, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday (June 1).
Shore, already named the 2016 Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year, boasts a 10-0 record this season and has won 15 consecutive decisions, a school record, dating back to May 14, 2015. The Coon Rapids, Minn. native also owns a 2.41 earned run average, 76 strikeouts, and just 13 walks in his 15 starts this season. Shore's 86 innings pitched this year lead all Gators.
A two-time All-SEC First Team selection, Shore's 28 career wins are tied for the second-most in program history, only three behind Marc Valdez's (1991-93) school-record 31 victories.
Shore and the Gators (47-13), who earned the No. 1 national seed for the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament, will open regional play against fourth-seeded Bethune-Cookman at McKethan Stadium this Friday (June 3). First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. ET, with SEC Network providing live television coverage.
