Summer Review: Checking in with Florida’s Team USA Participants

Three current Gators and three Florida alumnae have been competing for the United States this summer in international play.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Current Gators Kelly Barnhill, Delanie Gourley and Amanda Lorenz, along with Florida alumnae Michelle Moultrie, Aubree Munro and Kelsey Stewart have been competing for the United States this summer in international play. Most recently, this sextet competed in the World Cup of Softball XI in Oklahoma City.
Barnhill, Gourley, Moultrie, Munro and Stewart helped the United States national team to a runner-up finish last week at the World Cup of Softball, while outfielder Amanda Lorenz earned a fourth-place finish with the USA Elite squad.
Up next for the USA Softball Women's National Team is the WBSC Women's World Championship, which will be held July 15-24 in Surrey, B.C., Canada. Fans at home can follow along with live stats, streaming and more at ASAUSASoftball.com.

Lorenz appeared in five of the Elite's six games during the week in OKC, compiling a .500 batting average with three doubles, two home runs and six RBI. The Moorpark, Calif. product recorded a multi-homer game in the Elite's big win over New Zealand on July 9, 13-0.
For the USA National Team, Stewart played in all seven contests and recorded two doubles and one triple while hitting .286 for the week. Moultrie flashed her power by hitting a pair of home runs in run-rule victories for the Stars and Stripes.
In the circle, Gourley posted a perfect 2-0 record in three appearances while totaling four strikeouts and no walks in 9.1 innings pitched. Barnhill recorded 5.0 innings of action in the circle and totaled eight strikeouts during her four appearances.

LOOKING BACK
Members of the 2016 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) landed in Tokyo, Japan for the USA vs. Japan All-Star Series in late June. Team USA participated in three games against the Japan National Team, including a series-opening matchup at the Tokyo Dome.
Kelly Barnhill, Delanie Gourley, Michelle Moultrie, Aubree Munro and Kelsey Stewart were among 19 players who made the trip overseas.
After Japan captured the first two games of the series, Team USA claimed a 5-1 win over Japan in the series finale to close out the USA vs. Japan All-Star Series.

Stewart and Moultrie appeared in all three games of the series against Japan, and Stewart recorded a .375 (3 for 8) average with a double and a walk. Barnhill and Gourley each tossed a pair of innings in the series, and Munro saw action in Games 2 and 3 of the series.
