Florida picked up two IWLCA Academic Honors, while 23 were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team this week.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- After 24 Gators earned SEC Academic Honor Roll nods in June, the accolades for success in the classroom keep rolling in for the Florida lacrosse team. Tabbed one of the IWLCA's Academic Honor Squads, 24 Gators were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team & another six upperclassmen were named to the IWLCA's DI Academic Honor Roll this week.
Florida was one of 275 institutions named one of the IWLCA's Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2015-16 academic year Wednesday. That means the entire 35-player Gators roster combined to post a 3.0 or higher GPA last year.
Thursday, 24 Gators were named to the BIG EAST's All-Academic Team for the 2015-16 academic year, including freshmen. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters of academic work. The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. Florida's 24 honorees were among 2,330 student-athletes honored for the 2015-16 academic year, the most in the three years since conference realignment.
Lastly, six 2016 upperclassmen in Sam Darcangelo, Sammi Burgess, Lauren Lea, Carli Marsh, Carly Ross and Devon Schneider were among the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll, requiring a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. The quartet of seniors in Darcangelo, Lea, Ross & Schneider all graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in May.
