Summer Update: US Lacrosse & Under Armour HS All-America Game

Two Gators finish US Lacrosse Tour of England, two incoming players a part of Under Armour High School All-America Game.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida assistant coach Becca Block and former Gator Great and Vandy assistant coach Shannon Gilroy have been busy on the lacrosse field this summer. Both Block and Gilroy have traded in their coaching hats for cleats through the next two months, playing professionally for the Long Island Sound in the inaugural season of the United Women's Lacrosse League, and for Team USA.
Both Block and Gilroy just wrapped up a week-long training tour across the pond in England at Surrey Sports Park with the US National Team, complete with a 5-0 record in exhibition play during the tour. US Lacrosse defeated the England developmental team (21-7), Scotland (20-0), England (20-2), Germany (19-1) and Wales (20-1) throughout the week-long tour in preparation for the 2017 FIL World Cup -- also to be held at Surrey Sports Park in England next summer.
"We didn't let the outside distractions impact how we went about what we wanted to do," said U.S. team head coach Ricky Fried. "The consistent level of play that we had over this week was the best I've seen from a U.S. team since I've been a part of it."
While the foreign tour provided a glimpse of the talent on the national team, US Lacrosse will host a three-day tryout in August to compile a training-team contingent leading into the World Cup next summer.

Block, Gilroy, Nicole Graziano, Lauren Lea and Lindsey Ronbeck were among the 105 players selected at the end of June to try out for the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team. The three-day tryout will take place August 5-7 at the national team training center in Sparks, Md. After the tryout, approximately 36 players will be selected for U.S team. Following another fall training weekend, the roster will be cut to 24 once more to train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players, plus two alternates, selected in January, to represent the United States as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
