Ryan Lochte and Dan Wallace will swim in the final of the 200 IM
RIO DE JANEIRO – There were 11 different Gator letterwinners competing in the sports of swimming and volleyball at the Olympic Games on Wednesday and several enjoyed success.

Swimming
Ryan Lochte (USA) and Dan Wallace (UK) will get an opportunity to add a medal each to their Rio haul, both swimming the 200 IM semifinals tonight and qualifying for Thursday's final. Lochte, who among his countless honors was a recipient of the Florida Dairy Farmers High School Athlete of the Year, placed second in his semifinal at 1:56.28, grabbing tomorrow's two-seed, and Wallace placed fourth in that same semifinal at 1:57.97. He qualified fifth for the final.
Caeleb Dressel (USA) finished up his Olympic schedule with the 100 free final, finishing sixth in 48.02.
Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez (ESP), Hilda Luthersdottir (ICE) and Corey Main (NZ) also appeared in tonight's semifinals. Solaeche-Gomez swam in the first semifinal of the 200 IM, finishing seventh in his heat at 2:00.47. In the 200 breast, Luthersdottir placed fifth in her heat at 2:24.41. Main, competing in the 200 back, placed eighth in his heat at 1:58.08.
In this morning's heats, Rex Tullius (U.S. Virgin Islands) made his Olympic debut, placing second in his 200 back heat at 1:59.14. Omar Pinzon (COL) also swam the event, tying for 6th in his heat at 1:59.69. Finally, Melani Costa-Schmid (ESP) rounded out her busy schedule in Rio by starting off Spain in the 4x200 free relay. She swam a 2:00.02 split en route to an eighth-place finish in the heat and 8:03.74 team time.

Volleyball
- Aury Cruz and Team Puerto Rico fell to China, 3-0, in their Wednesday pool match. Cruz started and recorded nine kills in the loss.
- Puerto Rico continues pool play next on August 12 against Netherlands at 4:05 p.m. ET
- Kelly Murphy helped Team USA become the first team to secure a spot in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over Serbia. Murphy started and logged six kills for the Americans.
- The USA continues pool play next on August 12 against Italy at 2 p.m. ET
