USA and Puerto Rico, both featuring a Gator Great, will kick off Rio 2016 by squaring off against each other Aug. 6 at 4 p.m.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Aury Cruz (Puerto Rico) and Kelly Murphy (USA) have already made history as the first two Florida volleyball indoor Olympians in program history. They're among a staggering 30 University of Florida athletes competing in Rio, the most in the SEC. What could add to the excitement of both volleyball Gators at the Games? How about USA and Puerto Rico squaring off on the first day of volleyball action in Rio Saturday at 4 p.m. Gator vs. Gator. Kelly vs. Aury.
Gator fans and volleyball fans alike will be able to take in the Gators' first match of the Olympic Games live on NBC Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Both Cruz and Murphy will play every other day in group play beginning Saturday: Aug. 6, Aug. 8, Aug. 10, Aug. 12 and Aug. 14 before the Olympic Quarterfinals get started August 16. Both Team USA and Puerto Rico are in Group B.
On July 12, four-time Gator All-American Kelly Murphy reached the pinnacle fo her career with the USA National Team when she was one of two opposites and just 12 players named to the USA Volleyball Olympic Roster. Murphy was a key cog as Team USA won the 2014 World Championship. She scored a team-high 157 points then and most recently guided USA to a silver medal at the FIVB Grand Prix.
Cruz, the 34-year-old three-time All-American Gator Great on the brink of retiring from the Puerto Rican National Team, guided Puerto Rico to its first EVER Olympic berth and will play on the world's biggest stage in Rio before hanging up her jersey after 18 years with her National Team.
