GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida soccer team was shutout 3-0 by Auburn in Southeastern Conference home action Thursday in front of 1,154 at the James G. Pressly Stadium.
Scoring in the Match:
A defensive turnover in the 24
th minute was converted into an easy tap-in by Kristen Dodson to give the Tigers the halftime lead. The 1-0 lead could have been larger as the penalty kick by Brooke Ramsier in the 18
th minute was high.
The match remained 1-0 until the 83
rd minute when the Tigers scored twice in a bit over a two-minute span. Courtney Schell headed in a Brooke Ramsier corner kick at 82:03. The final goal started when UF goalkeeper
Kaylan Marckese came out to almost midfield to clear a ball. A charging Dodson blocked the kick and then got a shot away before Markese and
Gabby Seiler could clear the ball. That shot scored on the open net from 35 yards.
The Gators put four shots on frame tonight, with perhaps the best chance coming in the 60th minute.
Mayra Pelayo sent a curling ball into the box that had two Gator options making a run in the box. The ball went over
Savannah Jordan who was making a run down the middle but
Melanie Monteagudo one-touched the ball from five yards just inside the far post. Auburn's Sarah Le Beau made the stop on the point-blank shot.
Worth Noting:
- This was Florida's second 3-0 shutout in SEC regular-season action in the program's 22-year history. The first was Oct. 6, 2002 at Kentucky.

What Burleigh Said:
On her overall thoughts on tonight's match…
"I'd have to say it was one of the strangest games I've ever been a part of here at UF. Obviously interesting goals and a set piece. I think the big thing for us is how we respond to this. It is disappointing to lose like that. Do we stay together and do we work hard? When we gave up the third goal, I still saw a lot of fight in us. I didn't see anyone putting their head down and quitting – that is what we've got to build on for Sunday."
– Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh
On tonight's match…
"Auburn came out ready to play. I think we gave up kind of an odd goal in the beginning and that hurt us a little bit. I'm honestly proud of how our team fought tonight. It's not easy going down 1-0 and chasing a game. I'm proud of how everyone played even when we were down 3-0. We have a bright future ahead of us and we just have to get past this.
"Auburn was really organized and ready to play tonight. Like I said, we gave up kind of a weird goal, which put us on our heels a little bit. How we respond to this going forward is what is important." – senior forward
Savannah Jordan
