Florida stays in poll after losing 21-point lead to Tennessee, which moved up to No. 11.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators had an up-and-down performance at Tennessee on Saturday.
You can say the same about their position in the AP Top 25.
Florida dropped four spots Sunday to No. 23, remaining in the poll despite a 38-28 loss to the Vols. The Gators led 21-0 in the first half before Tennessee scored 38 consecutive points.
"They came out after halftime and really took us with explosive plays,'' Gators head coach Jim McElwain said. "That was kind of miserable."
This is the second time this season the Gators have held the 23rd spot in the poll. The Gators opened the season ranked 25th, dropped out of the poll after a win against UMass, and then re-entered at No. 23 following their 45-7 victory over Kentucky two weeks ago. The Gators jumped four spots to No. 19 a week ago before dropping four spots Sunday afternoon when the Week 5 poll was released.
The Gators are No. 21 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
Florida (3-1, 1-1) travels to Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-1) on Saturday as it tries to bounce back from the second-half collapse at Tennessee. The Vols (4-0, 1-0) moved up three spots to 11th after snapping an 11-game losing streak against the Gators.
Seven SEC teams are ranked in the latest AP Top 25, highlighted by No. 1 Alabama. No. 9 Texas A&M is the other SEC school ranked in the top 10. Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida and Georgia are the other SEC teams ranked.
