The Florida men's team defeated 20th-ranked Tennessee last weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After their 183-117 Senior Day victory over No. 20 Tennessee, freshman Chandler Bray received a SEC Male Freshman of the Week Honor and junior Caeleb Dressel a SEC Male Swimmer of the Week honor, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday. It's Dressel's third honor of the season and Bray's first of his career.
Like the previous week at Auburn, Dressel again placed first in all four of his counted events (the 400 free relay he participated in was counted as an exhibition time). In the 50 free, he put up an A-cut 19.08, which ranks second-fastest in the country to his own 18.73 season-best. He also posted two B-cuts in the 200 free (1:35.29) and 200 IM (1:46.12). In the 200 medley relay, Dressel partnered with Jack Blyzinskyj, Bray and Jan Switkowski to finish at a B-cut and season-best 1:25.83, which he anchored with an 18.37 freestyle split.
Breaststroke specialist Bray, swimming in his first home meet as a Gator, put up a pair of season-best B-cut times in both the 100 and 200 breast. He also swam breaststroke on Florida's 200 medley relay A-team, touching in 24.54 during his split. Bray has become an integral part of that relay for UF and is the lone underclassman of the Blyzinskyj, Bray, Switkowski and Dressel lineup.
Next up, Florida will send select swimmers to the Carolina College Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, North Carolina this weekend. The Gators are also preparing for the upcoming SEC Championships, which will begin Feb. 14 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The list of SEC weekly honor recipients for Week 12 is as follows:
Male Swimmer of the Week: Caeleb Dressel, Florida
Male Diver of the Week: Liam Stone, Tennessee
Male Freshman of the Week: Chandler Bray, Florida
Female Swimmer of the Week: Kira Toussaint, Tennessee
Female Diver of the Week: Nicole Gillis, Arkansas
Female Freshman of the Week: Meghan Small, Tennessee
