Multiple Gators Invited To USA Softball Selection Camp

OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball announced today that 56 athletes accepted an invitation to attend the 2018 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp (Jan. 1-5) in Clearwater, Fla. at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex. Offers to attend the selection camp were extended to 61 athletes.
Eight Gators, three current and five former, were extended the opportunity to try out for the 2018 USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) roster - seven accepted the invitation.
Juniors Kelly Barnhill and Amanda Lorenz along with former Gators Michelle Moultrie (2012), Kelsey Stewart (2016), Aubree Munro (2016), Kirsti Merritt (2016) and Delanie Gourley (2017) will vie for a spot on the 2018 WNT roster. Senior Nicole DeWitt declined her invitation.
Barnhill, Moultrie, Stewart, Munro and Gourley all earned spots last year and competed for the WNT this past summer. The USA won gold at the Pan Am/World Qualifier and silver medals in both the Japan Cup and at the World Cup of Softball XII.
Athletes in attendance for the selection camp will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and will be evaluated by the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).
Those selected to the WNT roster will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship (Aug. 2-12) in Chiba, Japan, the World Cup of Softball XIII and select invitational events.
