Junior KeVaughn Allen one of 20 nationally on list
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – KeVaughn Allen has been named to the Preseason Watch List for the Jerry West Award, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tuesday.
The Florida junior is one of 20 guards on the list to begin the season. Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its fourth year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball.
The 2017 Coaches First-Team All-SEC selection averaged 14.0 points per game to lead the Gators. Last season, Allen saved his best performance for the bright lights of Madison Square Garden posting a career-best 35 points in the Sweet 16 win vs. Wisconsin, helping him earn NCAA Tournament All-East Regional Team honors. With 923 points in his first two seasons, Allen is set to become the Gators 51st player in school history to eclipse 1,000 points in his career.
The watch list of 20 players for the award will be trimmed down to 10 players in mid-February with the five finalists being presented to the committee in March. The winner of the 2018 Jerry West Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 6, 2018.
