
Townsend Announced as Senior CLASS Award Nominee

Redshirt senior punter one of 30 candidates
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt Senior Johnny Townsend was selected as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award, as announced by the committee on Thursday.
Townsend currently leads the nation in punting yards per game, recording 48.76 yards per game. He has tallied 21 punts for a total of 1,024 yards through the first four games of this season.
The Orlando, Fla. native sits in second place in UF's history for career yardage, passing Buster Morrison (1972-74, 8,374 yards on 209 punts) in week three. With 9,071 yards on 197 punts, he sits just 829 yards away from tying the program record.
Townsend has multiple accolades to his name, including First Team All-America honors by CBS Sports and Second Team All-America honors by Fox Sports. He has also been selected as one of 10 Ray Guy Award semifinalists in the last two seasons.
On the academics side, Townsend earned his Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunication in May of 2017 and is currently earning his Masters of Science in Management. The Orlando, Fla. native is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and was named SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll in 2013.
Townsend is also largely invested in the community, working with multiple organizations throughout his years at Florida.
To be considered for this award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
