Holloway Earns Third Weekly SEC Award

Grant Holloway was previously named SEC Men's Runner of the Week (Jan. 10) and SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week (Jan. 24)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida hurdler, jumper, and sprinter Grant Holloway earned his third weekly honor from the Southeastern Conference, this time nabbing SEC Men's Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 14) afternoon.
Holloway retook his 60-meter hurdles national lead at last Friday's (Feb. 10) Tyson Invitational with a time of 7.58 seconds, tying collegiate record holder Omar McLeod for the second-fastest time by a Division I freshman since 2002. McLeod's time of 7.57 in the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships preliminaries is the only one faster. McLeod won the national title that year with a 7.58.
Since 2002, only seven men (not including Holloway) broke 7.60 prior to NCAA Indoors, and five of them went on to win the national title. Gator Great and school record holder Eddie Lovett (2013) was one of the five national champions.
Holloway also took runner-up honors in the long jump with two of the top seven jumps (7.84 meters, 7.82 meters) in the nation last week. And for good measure, he ran the third-fastest 4x400 relay split of anyone in the invitational field (45.23), helping the Gators clock the fifth-fastest time in the nation (3:05.14) Saturday (Feb. 11) afternoon.
Here is a look at some of Holloway's other achievements that have him in the national spotlight this season:
The Gators, whose men have been ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA National Team Rankings all season long, will send a small group of sprinters and hurdlers to Friday's (Feb. 17) Tiger Tuneup in Clemson, S.C. Next week, Florida competes at the SEC Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25) in Nashville.
