Barnhill Named SEC Pitcher of the Week
Monday, February 20, 2017 | Softball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After picking up three wins for the University of Florida softball team, sophomore Kelly Barnhill garnered the award of SEC Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday, Feb. 20.
Barnhill, a right-handed pitcher, earned wins over Florida A&M, Northwestern State and FIU to improve her record to 4-0 on the season. During the Aquafina Invitational, Barnhill fanned 32 batters and scattered just seven hits through 14.2 innings pitched on the weekend.
The sophomore from Marietta, Ga. tossed her second one-hitter of the season in a 10-0 (5 innings) victory over Northwestern State Feb. 18 – it was also her fourth of her career.
Currently, Barnhill has pitched 24.0 innings without allowing a run to score a streak that dates back to when the Gators defeated Michigan at the USF Wilson-DeMarini Tournament in Tampa, Fla. last weekend.
This is her first SEC Pitcher of the Week award and is a two-time 2016 SEC Freshman of the Week recipient (3/21 & 5/19).
Florida will continue its season this weekend at the Citrus Classic, which will be held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Tickets can be purchased at the main gate: $18 (Adults) & $13 (Children 13 & under).
