Gourley Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior left-handed pitcher Delanie Gourley of the University of Florida softball team was selected as one of 30 collegiate softball student-athletes from around the country as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award Tuesday, Feb. 28.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
Gourley, a 2016 NFCA First Team All-American, is on track to graduate with a degree in Sociology and has spent the last four years at Florida as mentor both on the team and in the community as she has currently volunteered over 70-plus hours to local organizations and has unselfishly helped her fellow teammates excel.

Over the years Florida softball has been well represented by outstanding student-athletes who have garnered notoriety with the Senior Class Award. In 2009, Stacey Nelson became the first Gator to receive the award.
