GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men's golf team will head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. on Monday to kick off its spring season at the Sea Best Invitational. The Gators won the tournament last year with a score of 826 (-14), 23 strokes ahead of second place. Sam Horsfield clinched the individual medal with a seven-under 203 while Alejandro Tosti finished second with a four-under 206.
The Orange and Blue look to build off a stellar fall season that saw the team clinch two tournament titles, finish top five in all four tournaments and have a player win the individual medal at the final tournament.
Tosti will look to carry over his hot play in the fall into the spring. The junior finished with two top three performances, including a victory in the Tavistock Collegiate. Tosti also leads the team in birdies (43) and eagles (2).
Course Information: The 2017 Sea Best Invitational is being held at the par-71, 6,977-yard TPC Sawgrass-Dye's Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Tournament Information: The tournament will be a two-day, 54-hole event.
Head Coach J.C. Deacon:
On what he thinks the Spring season will be like:
"The last month has been awesome; our preparation has been amazing. I think all of us are ready to compete and get things started. It's going to be exciting for all of us to get to play and compete and be there as a team. I'm looking forward to getting things going."
On how much it means to start the season at a place the team and an individual won at last season:
"It's a place that we're comfortable. A.J. Crouch is from there, we have a lot of friends up there, Pete Fox is a big supporter of the program, he's helped us a lot and he's from up there. So we all feel comfortable and enjoy the course and some of the restaurants we get to go to. It's a fun trip and a perfect way to start the spring."
Tee Times (Rd. 1):
Lineup:
Junior Alejandro Tosti (Rosario, Argentina.): Tosti is coming off a superb fall season that saw him win his second college individual medal, lead the team in birdies and eagles and have the lowest stroke average on the team (70.78).
