GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida softball team returns to SEC action this weekend March 17-19, with a three-game series against South Carolina in Columbia at the Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
In the storied history between the two programs, Florida holds the all-time series lead 42-20Â and have won 32 of the last 33 match-ups against the Gamecocks, including four-straight run rule victories.
The last time the two schools met was at the 2015 SEC Tournament when the two battled it out in Baton Rouge, La. with UF taking the victory 10-1 in five innings.
Fans can listen to the games on WGGG (92.1 FM/1230 AM) & WMOP (100.1 FM/900 AM) as Daniel Gillman and Kelsey Horton will have the call. The series will also be viewed via the SEC Network + on WatchESPN.com.
First game of the series is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
Notables
- Aleshia Ocasio and Katie Chronister combined for the Gators 16th shutout of the season. Ocasio threw for three scoreless innings for the win while Chronister picked up the save in a 13-0 victory after coming in with a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
- Florida has hit three grand slams on the season after junior Janell Wheaton hit one in the fourth inning against North Dakota State. Freshman Jaimie Hoover hit the other two earlier this season.
- Wheaton tied her career-high for RBIs after she produced five in the fourth inning against the Bison. Senior Chelsea Herndon set a new career-high with five RBIs of her own in the contest.
2015 REGULAR SEASON SERIES RECAP
Game 1 | The No. 3-ranked University of Florida softball team defeated South Carolina, 10-2 (6 innings), on Friday night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Seniors Bailey Castro and Lauren Haeger had a combined four hits with three home runs and seven RBI on the night as Florida (34-4, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) scored in double-digits for the third time in SEC play.
In the circle, Haeger held the Gamecocks to two runs on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a complete-game effort to improve to 16-0 on the season.
Florida won the game in the sixth with four runs on back-to-back home runs by Haeger and Castro.
Kelsey Stewart singled to lead off the inning and
Kayli Kvistad walked to set up Haeger's three run shot down the left-field line before Castro sealed the 10-2 victory with a solo shot to left.

Game 2 & 3 (DH) | The No. 3-ranked University of Florida softball team completed a three-game series sweep of Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina on Saturday with two five-inning wins at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Florida scored 35 runs in the doubleheader, taking Game 1 by a 19-0 score before closing out the holiday weekend with a 16-3 victory.
Freshman
Aleshia Ocasio gave up four hits and struck out two batters in a complete-game effort to earn the win in the opener, while sophomore
Delanie Gourley yielded three earned runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts to pick up her eighth victory of the season in the finale.
UF set a program record for runs in a three-game series with 45 runs against the Gamecocks.
