BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida jumper Clayton Brown and hurdler/sprinter Brandee' Johnson were named the SEC Men's and Women's Freshman of the Week, respectively, Tuesday (March 28) afternoon, the conference office announced.
Brown topped out at 2.15 meters (7 feet, 0.5 inches) in his high jump victory at last Saturday's (March 25) Hurricane Invitational. Brown, the SEC Indoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, ranks eighth nationally and first among SEC high jumpers this year.
No other SEC freshman has cleared a bar higher than 2.04 meters (6 feet, 8.25 inches) this season.
Johnson ran the No. 10-ranked 100-meter hurdles time in school history (13.47 seconds), in addition to her leadoff leg on Florida's 4x100 relay—which clocked the fourth-fastest time in the nation (44.07). The Suffolk, Va. native ranks No. 17 nationally and fifth among freshmen in the 100 hurdles.
