Gourley & Barnhill Named Finalist For USA Softball Player of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senior Delanie Gourley and sophomore Kelly Barnhill were recently named as finalists for the 2017 USA Softball Player of the Year. A pool of 34 NCAA Division softball players were selected as finalists for the prestigious award.
Gourley, a 2016 USA Softball Player of the Year Top 10 finalist, is having another successful season in the circle for the Gators in her senior season. She ranks in the top five among active career leaders in ERA (1.51 5th) & saves (14 – 5th) and is a critical component to the nation's top pitching staff.
This season, the Lakeside, Calif. native currently sits ninth nationally in ERA (0.79) & shutouts (7), fourth in hits allowed per seven innings (2.88) and 11th in strikeouts per seven innings (10.2).
Barnhill makes her first appearance as a finalist for the coveted award. She is blazing her way through a sensational sophomore campaign.
The Marietta, Ga. native leads the nation in ERA (0.22) and strikeouts per seven innings (12.7) and ranks amongst the nation's best in hits allowed per seven innings (3.11 – 5th), shutouts (7 – 9th) and strikeouts (172 – 16th).
Prior to the start of post-season play, the list will be narrowed to the Top 10 Finalists on May 10. The Top 3 Finalists will be announced May 24, while the winner of the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be revealed on May 30 prior to the start of the NCAA WCWS in Oklahoma City.
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions, members of the media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country as well as past winners of the award.
The Gators return to action this weekend with a three game series against Kentucky in Lexington. First game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. (ET)
