Florida is one of four Southeastern Conference teams in NCAA Semifinal II.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Some familiar faces await the University of Florida gymnastics team in the NCAA Championships semifinal action. Florida is one of four Southeastern Conference programs in the six-team field for NCAA Semifinal II, set for Friday, April 14 at 8 p.m. (ET). Semifinal II contains Florida, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Nebraska.
Semifinal I (which begins at 1 p.m. ET) consists of UCLA, Denver, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Utah and Washington. The NCAA Championships are April 14-15 in St. Louis' Chaifetz Arena.
This is the fourth season that the seeding determined at the time of regional selections holds throughout the championships. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 13 will compete in Friday's Semifinal I and teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 14 compete in Semifinal II. The top two teams at each of the six April 1 regional sites advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Florida is the No. 3 seed for the third time and for the first time since 1985. The Gators advance to the national site after winning the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
The top three teams in each of the April 14 semifinals advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 15 at 9 p.m. (ET) to determine the national team champion. For the second consecutive year, all three NCAA Championship sessions are televised live. Semifinal I airs on ESPN2 and Semifinal II and semifinal II begins at 8 p.m. (ET) on ESPNU and then flips at 9 p.m. (ET) to ESPN. The Super Six team final airs live on ESPNU.
Florida is making its 35th NCAA Championship appearance in the meet's 36-year history. The Gators took fourth in 2016 after winning the NCAA title in 2013, 2014 (tie with Oklahoma) and 2015.
