GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A highly publicized off-the-field incident has cast Gators defensive tackle Caleb Brantley into the spotlight the week of the NFL Draft.
The draft opens Thursday in Philadelphia and Brantley, projected to go anywhere from the late first round to the third round, faces a tenuous few days as he waits to hear his name called. Tampa Bay Times UF beat reporter Matt Baker followed the back-and-forth story closely on Monday. At this point, it's your classic he-said, she-said saga based on comments from each party's attorney.
Meanwhile, with the NFL closely monitoring any potential violence-against-women crimes by players and Indiana University recently announcing a new policy that bans athletes with history of sexual or domestic violence cases, you can be sure Brantley's case is being discussed by NFL personnel leading up to the draft.
Former NFL general manager Bill Polian and an ESPN panel discussed Brantley's case on Monday afternoon. In addition, ESPN.com senior writer Mark Schlabach reported Brantley is not expected to face formal charges prior to the start of Thursday's draft.
Fortunately for Gators fans interested in other draft news or the latest from UF sports, there's plenty of fresh links from around the internet for your perusal. Here are some of the latest:
