Munro Graduates With Degree In Telecommunications
Sunday, April 30, 2017 | Softball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Florida catcher and current student assistant Aubree Munro graduated yesterday with her bachelor's degree in Telecommunications while also celebrating the program's third straight SEC Regular Season Championship in Knoxville.
Munro has been with the Gators all season long serving in a student assistant role with the primarily responsibility of mentoring the trio of current catchers Janell Wheaton, Brooke Clemens and Jordan Roberts.
After yesterday's celebration of a third straight SEC Regular Season Championship the team took a moment to celebrate the academic efforts of Munro receiving her bachelor's degree since she wasn't able to walk across the stage inside Exactech Arena at the Stephen F. O'Connell Center. Munro received a diploma, hugs and heartfelt congratulations from coaches, players and staff.
The Brea, Calif. native was one of the best to suit up in catcher's gear behind the plate for the Gators. She finished her career as she only made four miscues in 1,423 chances over her four years for a .977 fielding percentage that currently ranks second in the Florida record books.
That's only one slot in the record book as she also ranks fourth in stolen base against percentage (.521), fourth in chances (1,425), fourth caught stealing by (34) and third overall in putouts (1,316).
Munro is a member of the 2017 USA Softball Women's National Team and will compete for the Red, White and Blue over the summer.
From Coach Walton
"It's always a special moment when you have players in your program graduate. I think the overall importance, overall value of earning your college degree is invaluable - for Aubree it's her bachelor's and for Lauren (Collier) it's her master's. It says a lot about them, a lot about their family but more importantly it says a lot of about our program and the importance we put on graduating Gator champions."
