Florida’s APR Scores Point to Academic Commitment
Wednesday, May 10, 2017 | General
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida athletics once again posted high marks across the board in Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, announced Wednesday by the NCAA. Every Gator team scored above a 970 out of 1,000.
Last week, four Florida teams were celebrated as their APR scores were in the top 10 percent of their sport. Women's golf and men's and women's tennis all scored a perfect 1,000, while men's basketball was also recognized with a 990 that rated among the top 10 percent.
"In athletics, we keep score, not just on the playing field but also in the classroom," Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said. "These recent APR scores show that University of Florida student athletes not only win championships, but perform at a high level in their academic pursuits."
Thirteen of the 19 sports posted the same or better score compared to last year's APR, and 13 UF teams also met or exceeded the sport's national average. Notably, Florida's football team achieved a 980, compared to the sport's national average of 962, while men's basketball's 990 was also far ahead of the sport's national average of 966.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship, accounting for eligibility, retention and graduation. The current batch of scores are multi-year rates based on the four years from the 2012-13 academic year through the 2015-16 academic year.
To compete in 2017-18 postseason action, teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR in this report. This is the 13th year of the APR.
