GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Gator juniors – both with perfect 4.0 grade point averages – appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Women's At-Large first team for the second-straight year. Tennis player Josie Kuhlman and gymnast Alex McMurtry were named to the team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Both now advance to the national ballot. Academic excellence prevailed on the District IV team, as the lowest GPA among the 10-member team is a 3.93.
Kuhlman leads the top-ranked Gators with a 29-5 overall singles record, which includes an 8-3 mark versus nationally ranked opponents. She has teamed with Belinda Woolcock to win a team-leading 18 doubles dual matches. The two-time All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. Kuhlman earned All-America singles honors as a freshman.
McMurtry is the 2017 Honda Award winner as collegiate gymnastics' top female student-athlete. She won the NCAA all-around title with a NCAA semifinal record of 39.8125 and shared the NCAA uneven bars title. McMurtry received the 2017 NCAA Elite 90 Award, given to the student-athlete with the top overall grade point average at each of the 90 NCAA Championship sites. She was the only gymnast to earn All-America first-team honors in the five events in 2017 NCAA Championships' competition. McMurtry collected both the SEC Gymnast and Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2017. One of two in nation to earn 10.0s in three different events in 2017, including on bars in NCAA Super Six team final.
McMurtry is pursuing a degree in applied physiology & kinesiology and Kuhlman is majoring in public relations.
