Walton & Staff Tabbed NFCA Southeast Region Coaching Staff Of The Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – This afternoon the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its 2017 Division I Regional Coaching Staff of the Year awards.
Florida head coach Tim Walton along with assistant coaches Jennifer Rocha and Sharonda McDonald, volunteer assistant Cody Dent and student assistant Aubree Munro were tabbed as the Southeastern Region Coaching Staff of the Year. This marks the fifth time Walton and the Gators coaching staff has now earned regional coaching staff of the year accolades ('07, '08, '09, 11 & '17).
The staff led the Gators to a 58-10 record, 20-3 in the SEC, that included the program's third straight SEC championship and a berth to the NCAA Women's College World Series championship series.
The team finished the season as the No. 2 overall team in the country in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25 Coaches Poll which was also ranked No. 1 for five weeks of the season.
In addition to the rankings, Florida set school records for most shutouts (40) and strikeouts (683) in a season behind the staff of Kelly Barnhill, Delanie Gourley, Aleshia Ocasio and Katie Chronister.
Florida finished with national leading marks in ERA (0.81), second lowest in school history, and fielding percentage (0.985), the stellar fielding percentage mark ranks as the highest program history during a single season.
