Perez Makes Run to Round of 8 at Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship

UNITED KINGDOM – A trio of Gators spent the past week in the United Kingdom at the 2017 Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship. Freshmen Elin Esborn, Marta Perez and Carlotta Ricolfi entered the 144-player field to vie for Great Britain and Europe's premier female amateur golf trophy, contested at the Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club (Par 71).
The Ladies' British Open Amateur started with two rounds of qualifying stroke play, trimming the group down to 64 players advancing to match play. All three freshmen made the cut and moved on into the match play bracket.
Perez tied for 26th overall at 5-over (151) to land safely inside the top-64. Meanwhile, Esborn and Riocolfi were tied 41st (6-over) to qualify, respectively.
The opening round of match play pitted two Gators against fellow NCAA competitors. Perez got past the University of Miami's Dewi Weber, 1UP, while Esborn defeated Kansas State's Connie Jaffrey, 1UP.
Riocolfi was paired with Sara Kouskova and fell victim by way of 3&2 defeat to the Czech Republic native.
In the Round of 32, Perez came back with another victory, 1UP, over France's Mathlide Claisse. Meanwhile, Esborn's run in match play came to an end as she was defeated, 3&2, by Denmark product Line Toft Hansen.
Perez continued her impressive run as she down Arizona State's Linnea Storm in the Round of 16, 1UP.
However on Friday afternoon, Perez' impressive run ended in the Round of 8, dropping a sudden death decision on the 19th hole to Stina Resen from Little Rock.
