VOTE – Best Female College Athlete
LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Kelly Barnhill is one of five nominees up for a 2017 ESPY award in the category of Best Female College Athlete. The ESPYS will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
After having a stellar sophomore campaign, the Marietta, Ga. native joins some of the nation's best in their respective sports: Stanford's Inky Ajanaku (volleyball), West Virginia's Kadeisha Buchanan (soccer), Washington's Kelsey Plum (basketball) and Maryland's Zoe Stukenberg (lacrosse) are all on the ballot.
Barnhill helped lead the Gators back to Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series with national leading marks of a 0.51 ERA and 13.0 strikeouts per seven innings.
Those two staggering statistics also went down as the best in a single season by a Florida pitcher but she also set records in lowest opponent batting average (.121), most combined shutouts (10), most strikeouts looking (100) and lowest stolen base percentage (.333).
The ESPYS, hosted by Peyton Manning, will air on July 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC or you can watch the broadcast live on WatchESPN. Voting will remain open until the live show starts.
